Prenate develops Listening Ability from the Womb

Pregnancy 14th April 2020

Scientists have discovered that babies can sense the sounds, vibrations and motion in the womb. They can hear the sound through skin and bones, natural voices of mother and distorted voices from outside world.

A baby recognizes her mother’s voice in the womb. Any kind of noise or sound travels through the mother’s abdominal tissue and amniotic fluid and are muffled in the womb. For instance, try to hum a song or a tune to have an idea of how it is muffled in the womb.

Initially, in the second trimester, your baby begins to listen to different tunes, noises, and voices that help to get familiar with the external environment. It also prepares the baby for afterbirth adaptation with the environment. The sound recognition occurs by a system of chambers, passageways, and labyrinths coupled with nerve cells that transfer the sound signals to the brain.

Though the development of ears begins after a week of conception, which comprising of a compound network of tubes pinches out of the head in the 6th week of pregnancy. The baby can hear some limited noise by 16th week whereas, ears start to function after 24th weeks. The inside sound cycle for your baby comprises the wheeze of air through the lungs, blood flowing through the artery, and burbling of your stomach.

If babies were exposed to a loud rock music concert, it has reflex action in the form of a sudden kick in the womb by the baby. Prenate hears his/her mother’s voice clearly as it echoes through bones. The prenate whose mother was withdrawn during pregnancy fails to attain her accents. While the expecting father has to make extra efforts to make themselves heard the baby, the sound transmission through air conduction and bone conduction gives the mother an advantage over father. Simultaneously, the mother requires to create a calming ambience around her womb to ensure a positive impact on her baby.

Although a baby sleeps for 80-90% throughout the day in the womb, they still continue to hear sounds because the brain remains active.
